A Story Behind "My Name in Mother's Prayer" Song

Mother, as one person who we will always remember, until whenever, cannot be replaced by anyone in this world, even if it is girlfriend, wife, or best friend. There are lots of word often given to describe Mother like gentle, love, affection, comfortable, fussy, patient, sincere, beautiful, strong and many other words.

Well, on this post, I want to share a story behind a beautiful song titled "My Name in Mother's Prayer" written by Peter P. Bilhorn and popularized with title "Di Doa Ibuku Namaku Disebut" by Natasha Nikita in Indonesia. This song is said to be a very good song to illustrate how great mother's love and affection is. Many people who testified that this song has awakened us to mother's love. Now, I will share the background of this song is written. This song is a journey of life, a journey faith. The message contained in it is very moving, and I think this story has happened to almost everyone.

Peter P. Bilhorn, is the writer of this song, as the story goes:

Peter was a boy when he was just three years old when his father died during a civil war in America. He just lived with his mother and brother in a modest home in a not-so-crowded village. Peter at the age of eight had to leave school because he had to help his mother support the family, and by the age of fifteen they had to move to Chicago. There, he and his younger brother became carpenters.

Like a child, there must be some misbehavior that he ever did, maybe even to hurt his mother.

On a very late and lonely night, Peter came home, he passed through his mother's room door. Peter heard a voice, a voice he had never heard before. He found her mother in the bedroom, kneeling. His mother prayed with tears. His mother closed her eyes, folded her arms, well, his mom was praying, that's what Peter saw. Peter may never have realized how much his mother had prayed for him so much. Clearly, Peter can catch a sentence that is really thrilling, "God protect Peter on his way home ... ....Peter ... ...Teach Peter .... Peter ... and Peter ... and Peter .. and Peter".

In short, so many names Peter called. In everyday life, Peter did often see his mother praying, but Peter never tried to want to know what Mom prayed for.

Until the day came, Peter knew how much his mother had been so much for him. Much thought of him, until he was mentioned so much in his mother's prayers to God. Because mother loves Peter and his brother so much that his mom always brings Peter and his brother to God, so they will not suffer.

Without realizing it, Peter's breath began to feel tight, he could not bear to stop the teardrops that wanted to get out, he could not bear to see it any longer. Peter, sobbing and crying went to his room with tears in his eyes. Today, Peter really realizes how much his mother really loves him, even though he never realizes it.

Peter finally understood, that apparently all his actions have been a lot of worrying his mother. Furthermore, Peter understood very well that the prayer was a representation of how much she wished Peter greatly. How his mother was so hopeful, someday he became a good person. His mother also hoped that God would use Peter. Peter finally turned out to be very good after that.

Year after year passed, after a quiet midnight that day. It was true that his mother's prayer was heard by God. Peter is used by God to sing. Peter does have a good voice.

Peter's mother was no longer her age, and eventually she had to leave Peter and his brother. His mother has turned to the Father in Heaven. But the occurrence on that lonely night, which has moved and changed Peter's life, can not be forgotten. The occurrence that really awaken how much his mother's love is very big in his life.

The entire set of words on this song he created with his original title "My Mother's Prayer" written in 1890-1900 (don't know for sure), is a recording of the life story of Peter. A story of the faith journey from Peter who has composed many spiritual songs.

"My Name in Mother's Prayer"

That was in the days of careless youth, when life was fair and bright
And never a tear, and scarce a fear overcast my day and night
As in the quiet eventide, I passed her kneeling there
That just one word, my name, I heard my name in mother's prayer

Reff.:
My name in mother's prayer, my name in mother's prayer
That just one word, my name I heard, I heard my name in mothers prayer

I thought but little of it then, though reverence touched my heart
To her whose love sought from above for me the better part
But when life's sterner battles came with many subtle snare
Oft that one word, in thought I heard, my name in mother's prayer. > Reff.

That pleading heart, that soul so tiredd, has gone into her rest
But still with me for aye shall be the memory of her trust
And when I cross the Jordan's tide, and meet her over there
We'll praise the Lord, who blessed that word, my name in mother's prayer. > Reff.

"Di Doa Ibuku Namaku Disebut"

Diwaktuku masih kecil, gembira dan senang
Tiada duka ku kenal, tak kunjung mengerang
Di sore hari nan sepi, ibuku bertelut
Sujud berdoa ku dengar namaku disebut

Reff.:
Di doa ibuku namaku disebut, di doa ibu ku dengar ada nama ku disebut

Seringlah ini ku kenang, di masa yang berat
Di kala hidup mendesak dan nyaris ku sesat
Melintas gambar ibuku, sewaktu bertelut
Kembali sayup ku dengar, namaku disebut. > Reff.

Sekarang dia telah pergi ke rumah yang tenang
Namun kasihnya padaku selalu ku kenang
Kelak disana kami pun, bersama bertelut
Memuji Tuhan yang dengar namaku disebut. > Reff.

The Advantages and Disadvantages of Home Schooling

Home schooling becomes an attractive choice to parents this time. Public schools have become increasingly unstable over the past couple decades. Children play truant, violence is prevalent, children are bullied and the quality of education has decreased. That's why parents choose home schooling. However, there are pros and cons of home schooling.

Children who are home schooled can avoid many problems. For example, children can study without fearing other students or teachers. It means that they are under their parents' supervision. Home schooling allows children to study at their own ability and speed. If a child is weak at math, the home schooling teacher can more focus on that lesson or skill. Another advantages is that home schooling keeps children on learning. There are many students in school do not appreciate their teacher. By home schooling, students can value learning.

However, home schooling also have disadvantages. First, home schooled children are usually less socialized. Public school is a place where students learn to interact with others and build social skills. On the other hand, home schooled children just interact with their teacher. They do not know working together or solving problem in a group. Second, sometimes home schooling has different educational plan. Therefore, parents must choose the qualified person as a teacher. So, that the children get the proper curriculum.

Well, there are many other advantages and disadvantages of home schooling that not yet mentioned above. Therefore, parents must make sure the children ability and teachers' quality before they decide to make their children home schooled.

Song Review : 'Mean' by Taylor Swift

'Mean' is a song by Taylor Swift, an American country pop singer. This song is written by Taylor Swift and produced by Nathan Chapman and Taylor Swift. It was first released as a promotional single for her album "Speak Now" (2010) on October 17, 2010, by Big Machine Records. The song was later released as an official single on March 7, 2011. The song's accompanying music video was directed by Declan Whitebloom, who developed the concept together with Taylor Swift.

Swift created this song according to her own experience. The song was a response to people who criticize whatever she does. The song's lyrics reflect the issue of bullying and we can find that Taylor chewing out many people, particularly bullies in this song. It is a song that really could become part of the anti-bullying campaigns for schools everywhere.

Moreover, the music video begin with Swift and her band playing a banjo, all dressed in vintage-inspires clothes. The stage was set up like a front yard of a farmhouse. Then, Swift was showed being tied to the tracks by a villain. The villain and his friend laughed and Swift sat there helpless. In another scene, there was a boy being bullied while reading a fashion magazine in a locker room by football team and a girl wearing a fast food uniform, who was being made fun by her friends. Another cut scene showed a girl who was not allowed to sit with the popular group at lunch time and was forced to eat in the school bathroom. The next scene showed that the stage all dazzled up in a sparkly flapper gown performing in the big leagues. It was revealed that the boy who was reading the fashion magazine is now a famous fashion designer and the fast food girl who saved up for college has become an executive woman. And in another scene, the villain and his friend get drunk and faint. Then, effortlessly Taylor removes the ropes and taunts them as she leaves.

As another plus, 'Mean' earns point for a cool acoustic-based arrangement featuring generous amounts of fiddle, banjo, and mandolin. The song stands out as the most unique country track on a largely pop-oriented album, and arguably Taylor's most country-flavored single release to date, and it will likely stand out among its company on country radio. It's always good to see a popular mainstream artist stepping outside the box in a sense. If any artist could get away such a move, not losing radio airplay as a result, Taylor Swift would likely be one such artist. In addition, the lesson that we get from this song is not bullying the other. The music video touches the audiences of the patient from someone who is being bullied.

In my opinion, this song is easy listening and 'Mean' is a really good song. I always play to this song every time I go through my playlist. I recommend you to listen to this song and also watch the music video. This song has a nice message and can give a new spirit to someone is being bullied.

And here is the song's lyrics:
You, with your words like knives
And swords and weapons the you use against me
You, have knocked me off my feet again
Got me feeling like a nothing
You, with your voice like nails on a chalkboard
Calling me out when I'm wounded
You, picking on the weaker man

You can take me down

With just one single blow
But you don't know what you don't know

Someday I'll be living in a big old city

And all you're ever gonna be is mean
Someday I'll be big enough so you can't hit me
And all you're ever gonna be is mean
Why you gotta be so mean?

You, with your switching sides

And your wildfire lies and your humiliation
You have pointed out my flaws again
As if I don't already see them
I walk with my head down
Try to block you out
'Cause I never impress you
I just wanna feel okay again

I bet you got pushed around

Somebody made you cold
But the cycle ends right now
'Cause you can't lead me down that road
And you don't know what you don't know

Someday I'll be living in a big old city

And all you're ever gonna be is mean
Someday I'll be big enough so you can't hit me
And all you're ever gonna be is mean
Why you gotta be so mean?

And I can see you years from now in a bar

Talking over a football game
With that same big loud opinion but nobody's listening
Washed up and ranting about the same old bitter things
Drunk and grumbling on about how I can't sing
But all you are is mean
And a liar and pathetic
And alone in life and mean, and mean, and mean, and mean

But someday I'll be living in a big old city

And all you're ever gonna be is mean
Yeah, someday I'll be big enough so you can't hit me
And all you're ever gonna be is mean
(Why you gotta be so mean?)

Someday I'll be living in a big old city

(Why you gotta be so mean?)
And all you're ever gonna be is mean
(Why you gotta be so mean?)
Someday I'll be big enough so you can't hit me
(Why you gotta be so mean?)
And all you're ever gonna be is mean
Why you gotta be so mean?

Cash, Card, or Mobile Phone?

Right now, retailer, need to get grips with the dawn of contactless payment. In the past week there has been a raft of announcements and news on alternative payment methods. Technologists everywhere are still convinced that they can come up with something better than cash for smaller transactions. The alternative method that retailers must consider in the immediate future is contactless payment. A few stores in London have gone live with the Barclaycard Business contactless payment system already more than 1,000 other sites have signed up to use it, and 3,000 consumers have registered their interest in the system's one pulse contactless card.

The questions are :

  • Could we use it or apply it in Indonesia?
Yes, of course we can apply it in Indonesia. With every facility and convenience, nowadays, there are so many people in this country using credit card, debit card, e-money, mobile phone and etc., which are included as contactless payment. People don't have to bring many cash for their transactions on the certain place.

  • What are the benefits or advantages that we got as a consumer?
As a consumer that use the contactless payment, we got the benefits or advantages, such as :
  1. Convenience. We just need to touch your contactless card or device against the reader to pay in seconds. And there is no need to find cash and we can easily track our purchases on our statement or our banking app.
  2. Secure. Contactless payment are safe and highly secure. They have the same protection as chip and PIN payments, making them safer than cash. Contactless cards and devices are embedded with multiple layers of security to protect you against fraud.
  3. More features. When specifically tied to a smartphone, many feature are now available, such as payment history, remote deactivation, virtual card provisioning, user-configured-pin protection, etc.
  4. Flexibility of Alternate Form Factors. Contactless payment technology doesn't have to be delivered on conventional plastic cards. Contactless technology is increasingly available to consumers in other forms, such as mini-cards, stickers, key fobs and even mobile wallets that turn contactless-enabled-phone into payment devices-reducing the need to bring the physical wallet at all.

  • Which one would you prefer : cash, card, or mobile phone?
Between three payment choices above, i would prefer using card or mobile phone. Because it's easier and faster for me to use at certain places in Indonesia, like supermarket etc.
